Gary Curtis's Story
BLUEFIELD, WV Gary Curtis "Russ" Shatley, 73, of Thorn Street in Bluefield, WV, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2018 at his home.
He was born on June 25, 1944 in Bluefield to the late Lee and Dorothy Shatley. He was a member of East End Baptist Church. Russ loved going to church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Steve.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol Walker Shatley; sister, Linda Munsey; son, Gary and wife Rebecca; daughter, Melinda Adams; grandson, Justin and fiance' Krista Branhum, Zachary, and Jacob; granddaughters, Taylor and Erowyn, one great granddaughter, Emily Adams, and former son-in-law, Quincy Adams.
Russ was an auto mechanic and worked at Lambert's Garage in Bluefield for most of his life. He will be sadly miss by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Mercer Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Chad Lambert officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 until the service hour.
Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV where pallbearers will be his grandsons, Justin Adams, Zachary Adams, and Jacob Adams, and friends Mike Poe, Randy Lambert, and Blake Auton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to College Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund, 1504 Princeton Avenue, Bluefield, WV 24701.
