Freddie's Story

Bluefield, WV - Freddie Duncan, 81 of W. Cumberland Rd. Bluefield, died Monday September 4, 2017 in a Bluefield nursing home. Mr. Duncan was born February 2, 1936 in Bluefield and was a son of the late Victor and Orpha Blackwell Duncan. He was a member of Edgemont Baptist Church and a graduate of Beaver High School. Mr. Duncan retired from GTE after 35 years of service. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters; Lillian Hardy, Helen Gilliam, Mable Comer, Evelyn Becorest, Grace Guills and Pauline Creasy, brothers; Ernest, Herbert, Earl, Victor (Buddy), Billy and Richard Duncan.
He is survived by the love of his life, Carol Shrewsbury Duncan, wife of 60 years. Son Steve Duncan, Bluefield, WV, daughter Deborah Proffitt and husband Shannon of Bluefield, VA. Grandchildren Michelle Duncan of Bluefield, WV, Steven Duncan and wife Kim of Florida, Zachary and Jordan Proffitt of Bluefield, VA. Great grandchildren; Ethan, Troy, Malik, Darian and Jaydon. Sister-in-Laws Dolly Duncan, Bernice Duncan and special niece Margaret Dunkle. In-laws Lois and Irvine Caswell, Betty and Steve Pintur, Shirley Brock, Richard and Kathy Shrewsbury, Donald and Judy Shrewsbury.
Funeral services will be Thursday September 7, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Hugh Cole and Pastor Tony Reed officiating.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
The family suggest in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105 or your favorite charity.
