Frank Woodson Winfree, Jr. age 90 of Bluefield, WV, and formerly of Fairmont, WV passed peacefully of natural causes on November 28, 2017 at Princeton Community Hospital.
Frank was born May 20, 1927 in Kayford, WV and was the only child of Frank Woodson and Elzenia Elizabeth Comer Winfree. He was a 1944 graduate of Charleston High School. He served in the Army, infantry division at Fort McPherson in Atlanta from 1945 to 1947. He married Joyce E Wilson on September 30, 1950. He also graduated from West Virginia University in 1950 where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He returned to military service in Korea from 1950 to 1952.
Returning to Fairmont WV, Frank served as vice president of Wilson Ford Sales Company for 23 years before moving to Surfside Beach, SC. He and his wife then moved to Harrisburg VA in 1979 and to New Market, VA in 1981. In 2010 they moved to Bluefield, WV to be closer to their children.
Frank was a member of the Fairmont Elks club for over 50 years and a member of the American legion Post 17 for 65 years. He was also a member of Acaci Masonic Lodge #157, A.F. & A.M. in Fairmont as well as a Shriner, receiving his 50-year certificate and pin in 2007.
In his early 70's, Frank hiked sections of Appalachian Trail with his daughter, Mickey, and friends. In his 80's he served hikers with the ATOM ministry in Bland, a ministry which provides meals and support to through hikers each May.
Frank is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joyce Wilson Winfree and their four children; Frankie and husband, Chuck McCabe of Naperville, IL, Mickey and husband Don Pellillo of Bluefield Virginia, Woody and wife Cynthia of Pickerington, Ohio and Marti and husband Carl Grainger of Nichols, SC, and his 9 grandchildren; Jason McCabe and wife Nicole, Jennifer Pellillo Howard and husband Kris, Jessica Grainger Gleason and husband Joe, Julie Pellillo, Sean Winfree and wife Lauren, Nick Winfree and wife Rebekah, Ryan Winfree and wife, Paige, Sarah Winfree and Grant Winfree, and 7 great grandchildren; Karolina Howard, Liam Winfree, K J Howard, Ollie McCabe, Gwyneth Winfree, Owen McCabe and Lydia Winfree.
Frank will be cremated followed by a memorial service Saturday December 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel officiated by family friend and Pastor Dewayne Belcher, to celebrate his life.
