Florence Josephine Graham of Palm Harbor, FL, formerly of Bluefield, WV and Richmond, VA passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert James Graham and Madge Richardson Graham; her brother, Albert James Graham, Jr. and her sister, Dorothy Graham Gilmer.
Florence was a native of Bluefield, WV and a graduate of Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA where she played the violin in the college's string ensemble in addition to playing the guitar. Florence lived in Richmond, VA for many years and she was a faithful and active member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder. For many years, she was a member of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the Scottish Society of Richmond.
During World War II, Florence worked for the US Army at Fort Pickett in Virginia. Florence then was an employee of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, US Department of the Treasury for more than 40 years. Florence, her sister Dorothy, and Dorothy's husband Bertrum travelled extensively throughout Europe and Asia. Florence and Dorothy later relocated to Florida and became members of the Northwood Presbyterian Church in Clearwater, FL. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Olivia Gillespie Graham of Chattanooga, TN; her niece, Patricia Graham Hartje, her husband, Robert of Chattanooga, TN and their children, Mathew and Rebecca; her nephew, Albert James Graham III, his wife Cherryl of Berwyn, PA and their children, Tristan, Rachael, and Sara; and her nephew, Robert Gillespie Graham of Tampa, FL, his children, Robert Jr., Christopher, and Riley.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:30 AM Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Maplewood Cemetery, Tazewell, VA where the family will receive friends for 30 minutes prior to the service.
