Emily Warden Yeager, 86 of Welch, WV, passed away on January 20, 2018.
Born February 7, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Edith Warden of Yukon, WV and raised in Bluefield, WV by paternal Aunt Doris Warden Stowers and her husband Tyler.
Emily graduated from Bluefield High School in 1948, followed by graduation from Salem College, NC in 1952. She married Ed Kornish, Sr. of Scranton, PA. She worked for GE, Sonar Division in New York and later taught math at Fairview Junior High School in Bluefield, WV. She married Earl Yeager and helped him run Yeager Ford in Welch. She was a lifelong Presbyterian (Elder of Anderson Memorial Church). Emily also served as Director of the McDowell County Commission on Aging. A lifelong Democrat, she was a former member of the WV House of Delegates and City of Welch Councilwoman, a community leader, a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, Patriot and American Legion Auxiliary Post 8, Welch Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce and the Gary Lions Club.
Left to cherish her memory are 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren: Daughter Doris Kornish of NYC (Children Leon and wife Estefania, Odetta, and Camellia Hartman), Son Ed Kornish and wife Angel of Welch (Children Sean Kornish and wife Rachael and daughter Jade "Dev" of Glasgow, Scotland; Dominic "Nick" Miano of Pittsburgh, PA; Nicole Kornish Patterson and husband Jim and sons Nick, Izik, and Jonathan, and daughter Taylor of St. Louis, MO; and Justin Miano and wife Elizabeth of Bradenton, FL), Daughter Ginnie Sue Byrd and husband James C "JC" Byrd of Welch (Daughter Jamie Grubb and husband Josh and children Jace and Olivia of Bluefield, WV.) Special friend Earl Stone and her little friend Maggie predeceased her.
Emily loved her God, Family, Country, and McDowell County. She spent her life serving others and helped a lot of people. Emily lived a good life and we will miss her and look forward to seeing her again.
Emily and her family thank McDowell Nursing and Rehabilitation staff for their loving care during her final days.
Emily donated her body for medical research at the WV School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mission Ministries or the McDowell County Library.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at noon on Saturday, January 27th, 2018 at Anderson Memorial Church (across from the Welch Armory on Stewart St. in Welch, WV)
