Elizabeth Ruth Sayers, 98 passed away Monday, June 26, 2017 at Westwood Center in Bluefield, Virginia.
Born October 20, 1918 in Boissevain, VA, she was the daughter of the late Leander and Hattie Harless Groseclose. She was a homemaker and proudly served as a volunteer for the RSVP organization. She was a member of Boissevain Baptist Church for many years.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Walter Sayers, her son Billy Winston Sayers, her daughter Brenda Joyce Sayers, grandsons Matthew Dennis Nipper and Jason Kight, brothers Claude and James Groseclose, and sister Esther McGovern.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children Donald Sayers and wife Yvonne of Jacksonville, Florida, Jerry Sayers of Dillwyn, VA, Phyllis Nipper and husband Ricky of North Tazewell, VA, Cathy Sayers of Woodlawn, VA, and Janet Hylton and husband Charles of Abbs Valley, Va; brother Paul Groseclose; 14 grandchildren and a host of great and great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend Marie Dunn.
Elizabeth, known by all as Tizzy, was a wonderful mother to her children. She was a very special person that found no fault in anyone. She always had a smile and a pleasant greeting for everyone she met. Even during her long illness she always tried to smile and continued to share her poems with those she loved.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Boissevain Baptist Church, in Boissevain, Virginia, Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm with visitation starting at 12:00 pm with Rev. Reginald Blakewood and Pastor Shawn Boone officiating. Pallbearers will be Charles Hylton, Tim Gasperson, Timmy Gasperson, Levi Stroupe, Mike Boone, Hunter Stroupe, and Martin Murphy. Honorary pallbearer will be Logan Boone. Burial will follow at the Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Virginia.
