Elizabeth Harris Carr
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and his parents, Dr. Arthur Bryan and Annie Crenshaw Armstrong Carr, her step-mother, Carolyn Watts Wilson Harris, and her son-in-law, Joseph Patrick Nestor. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, who were taking care of her, Carol Ann Carr Nestor Luche and Stephen E. Luche of Grand Island, FL, her son Arthur Allen Carr, Jr., and Susan Blanchard Carr of Franklin, TN, her grandson Alexander "Alex" Byron Carr and his partner Wendy Polka, her niece Shannon Carr McGuire and Michael Queen of Birmingham, AL, and her former daughter-in-law Michaelinda "Mikie" McGhee Beach of Virginia Beach, VA.
She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, Richmond, VA, had a 2-year associate degree from James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA, and had completed 2 years towards her nursing degree at the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, VA, when she and Allen moved back to WV for him to pursue his medical career. She is listed as being a homemaker, but she spent much of her life giving to and serving others. She was very active in St. Mark's Episcopal Church, War, WV, and St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Welch, WV, the Woman's Club and the Kiwanis Club in both towns, the Red Cross Bloodmobile, a 40-year volunteer with the American Cancer Society, Medical Auxiliary as a doctor's wife, scouts and other activities in the schools for her children. She was the WV Episcopal Diocesan CPC (Church Periodical Club-to spread the printed word) Chairman for 18 years, traveling through out the state with Betty's Bazaar to raise funds. In Eustis, FL, she funneled all this energy into St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, participating in nearly every activity that exists.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, 317 S. Mary St., Eustis, FL, 32726. Her memorial service will be at St. Thomas' on Saturday, January 26th at 1 PM followed by interment of her ashes in St. Thomas' Memorial Garden.
