Edward H. "Babe" Kensinger, 91, formerly of Bluefield, WV, died August 23,2017 in Louisville, Ky.
Babe is the son of the late James and Faye Kensinger, of Bluefield. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dot (Harmon) Kensinger, from Maybeury, WV; brother Don Kensinger (Eleanor) of Bluefield; sister, Janice Heath (Raeford) of Summerfield, NC; daughter Karen Sarver (Fred) of Carlisle, KY; Kathy Kensinger (Mary Grace Feltham) of Louisville, Ky; grandson, Justin Sarver (Jessica) of Madison, VA; granddaughter, Meghan O'Brien (Maurice) of Salem, VA; and 3 great grandchildren, Joshua Sarver, Amelia O'Brien and Evelyn O'Brien.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brother James Kensinger of Bluefield, and Kenneth Kensinger of Ft. Myers, FL.
Babe graduated from Beaver High School (Bluefield) in 1945. After serving in Okinawa in the Army Air Corps in World War II, he began a career with Norfolk and Southern Railroad, retiring in 1991. He and Dot are members of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bluefield.
During his 26 year retirement, Babe enjoyed woodworking, making and repairing furniture, and spending time with family and friends. Always ready to share a joke, song, story or his time with young and old alike, Babe is fondly remembered as a generous and lively husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Services will be at First Presbyterian Church in Bluefield, WV, Saturday September 2, 2017. Visitation will start at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev Jerri Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Garden in Bluefield, VA.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be directed in memory of Babe Kensinger to Trinity United Methodist Church in Bluefield, WV; First Presbyterian Church in Bluefield, WV; or "The Fireup 611 Campaign" which funds the restoration effort of the old J-class steam engine and passenger train that Babe used to fire.
