Earl Wesley Griffith Sr., of Jewell Ridge, Virginia, died peacefully at the home of his daughter in Tulsa, Oklahoma on March 1, 2018 at the age of 77.
Earl was born on February 26, 1941 in Jewell Ridge, Virginia to the late Charlie and Goldie Griffith.
He graduated from Richlands High School and served in the United States Army and the Virginia National Guard 1033rd Transportation Unit. He was a dedicated military soldier. Earl was a coal miner, Federal Mine Inspector, and Tazewell County School Bus Driver. Earl served on the Board of Tazewell County Supervisors and Public Service Authority Board. Earl was a committed and dedicated individual in his community. He was an avid fan and supporter of Richlands High School sports.
He is preceded in death by wife, Frances Kulia Griffith, parents, Charlie and Goldie Griffith, brothers, Henry Wade Griffith and Charles W Griffith, and son-in-law, Bob Reidenbaugh.
Earl is survived by: Daughters: Teri Reidenbaugh of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Sheri Griffith of Richlands, Virginia; Vanessa Purdy of Abingdon, Virginia; and Jaime Griffith of Richlands, Virginia. Son, Earl Wesley Griffith, Jr. and wife Tammy of Jewell Ridge, Virginia. Brothers, Ralph Griffith and wife Kathy of Jonesborough, Tennessee; Tommy Griffith and wife Colleen of Haymarket, Virginia. Sister, Dorthy Magelitz of Fort Ashby, West Virginia. 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Earl W. Griffith, Sr. will be conducted Monday, March 5, 2018 at 1pm at the Hurst Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands Virginia with the Rev. Corey Douglas Keene officiating. Burial will be at the Griffith Family Cemetery on Stinson Ridge Rd near Jewell Ridge, Virginia. Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites.
