Dr. Mario Enrique's Story
PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. Dr. Mario Enrique Cardona Soto passed away on July 5, 2017 at 85 years old, at his home in Pembroke Pines, FL, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 8, 1932 in Armenia, Colombia, South America, Dr. Cardona immigrated with his family to the United States in the 1960s to faithfully serve the communities of Welch and Bluefield as an Internal Medicine physician. During his career, Dr. Cardona worked for Stevens Clinic Hospital in Welch, St. Lukes Hospital and Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield, as well as operating a successful medical practice. After more than 40 years in practice, Dr. Cardona retired to Pembroke Pines, Florida in 2008.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eduardo and Enriqueta, younger brother Eduardo, and three sons Gus, Fred and Mario.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Consuelo, brother Alberto, children Patty, Jim, Lucy, Gigi and Phillip, and grandchildren Ciara, Gus, Carlos, Veronica, Jonathan, Amanda, Barbie, Mario, Stephanie and Cianna, and eight great-grandchildren.
It was his life's work and greatest honor to care for the wonderful people of southern West Virginia, and his family would like to express our sincere appreciation for your outpouring of love and memories during this time. Thank you for always welcoming him and trusting him with your health, his gentle spirit and warm heart made him much more than just a doctor. He considered all of you to be his family.
The family has honored Dr. Cardona's request that he be cremated with no services.
