Dorothy Via, age 78, of Richlands, Virginia, was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, October 14th, 2017.
Born in Eggleston, Virginia, Dorothy grew up along the railroad, mountains, and beautiful New River. She was proud of her lineage to Giles County and often spoke of her memories growing up in a rural community along the banks of the New River. After planting roots in Richlands, VA she started her career at what once was called the Clinch Valley Clinic. She worked in the kitchen as a general worker but her ambitions led her to become a registered dietitian after completing home study certification courses. Her long list of other accomplishments include becoming a published author, writer of several unpublished novels, fine cook, and seamstress of numerous quilts, afghans, and sewn crafts. Her most proud accomplishment was her strong children and the families those men and woman raised.
Dorothy was retired from Clinch Valley Medical Center having served in the Dietary Department for over 31 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dewey and Ethel (Weiss) Link, and sisters, Reba Keene and Loretta Link.
Dorothy is survived by: Her husband, Wayne Via of 51 years; Three sons: Rodney Godbey of Burnsville, NC, Carl Godbey of Richlands, VA, Anthony Greenawalt and wife, Robin of Christiansburg, VA; Two daughters: Martha Norman and husband, Mark of Catawba, VA, Carletta Jean Cruey and husband, Randy of Richlands, VA; Grandchildren: Captain Joseph Greenawalt, Jacob Greenawalt, Jade Greenawalt, Andy Sallee and Jennifer Sallee; Great Grandchild: Megan Cruey.
Funeral services for Dorothy Via will be conducted Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 2pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Pastor Seth White officiating. Entombment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Randy Cruey, Joey Greenawalt, Jacob Greenawalt, William Staton, Cole Staton, and Bill Stanley.
