WAR — Dorothy Cortellesi, 87, of War passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 in Clinch Valley Medical Center, Richlands, VA.
Born June 15, 1929 in Tazewell, VA she was the daughter of the late Ruben Hicks and Lillian Elswick Hicks. She was a graduate of Big Creek High School, and received her BS Degree from Concord College, and her Masters Degree from WVU. She was a dedicated administrator with the McDowell Board of Education having served as principal of Yukon, Amonate and Berwind Elementary schools. She was a member of the War United Methodist Church in War.
Dorothy was devoted to her family, and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Cortellesi; two brothers, Bill and Joe Hicks; and a grandson, Jonathan Cortellesi.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, George Michael Cortellesi of War, and Thomas Brian Cortellesi and wife Heather of Scotts Depot, WV; her special daughter, Marcella Marrs of War; three sisters, Mildred Todd and husband Raymond of Jacksonville, FL, Carol Stough and husband Fred of Raleigh, NC, and Phyllis Nethercutt of Huntington; and five grandchildren, Justin, Hunter, Isabella and Devin Cortellesi and Julie Yates.
A memorial service to honor her life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 28 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in War with the Rev. Spencer Oxford officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. until the service time.
The Douglas Mortuary of Welch and War is serving the family.
