PRINCETON - Delbert A. Johnson, 89, of Princeton died suddenly Friday morning, June 7, 2019 at the Veterans Hospital in Beckley.
Born June 21, 1929 at Maben, he was the son of the late Hedley Kirk Johnson & Alice Johnson.
Delbert proudly served his country with the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1953. He had a long career with the railroad, having worked for the Virginian, N & W and retiring from the Norfolk Southern Railroad. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance Ways. While his health permitted, he loved to garden, fish, travel and eat at Ryan's.
He will be remembered for being a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Eula Johnson, his second wife Sylvia Harmon Johnson, a son Samuel K. Johnson along with 6 brothers, Hobert, Sidney, Roy, Fred, Jack & Adrian.
Those left to cherish his memory, two children James A. Johnson & wife Susan; Deborah Sharon Chaaban & husband Rabih; stepdaughter, Barbara Bare & husband Stanley; Grandchildren Craig A. Johnson; Joshua K. Johnson; Angela C. Wyatt; Laura J. Mitchem; Izzat R, Chaaban; step granddaughter LaShonda Bare. Great grandchildren, Emma, Kyleigh, Aubreigh, Kadyn, Keegan, Julian, Halei, Hannah & Remy. A host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 10, 2019 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Reverend Mark McFadden officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with military honors given under the direction of the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may visit with the family Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the service hour at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made in Delbert's name to the VA Volunteer Service, 200 Veterans Avenue, Beckley, WV 25801.
