Deacon Reginald's Story

HIGH POINT, NC & KYLE, WV Early on Wednesday morning, Reginald took flight to his eternal home. He left peacefully at the Hospice House of Piedmont, with his family by his side. He was born December 21, 1947 in Powhatan, and the son of John and Elaine (Rucker) Hairston. He was a 1965 graduate of Elkhorn High School, a Veteran of the U.S. Army and after his return was employed at EACC in Keystone. At an early age, he accepted Christ at Mercy Seat Baptist Church in Kyle, where he became a deacon in 2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Shelia and Blaine Hairston; grandparents, John and Emma (Woods) Hairston and William and Priscilla (Hayden) Rucker; parents-in-law, Vonnie and Earnest Harris Sr. and brother-in-law, Earnest Harris Jr.
Reginald will be affectionately missed by his wife of 49 years, Barbara and their sons, Dwayne (Letha) of Baltimore, MD and Derrick (Dawn) Hairston of High Point; two other children, William Powell and Latoya Woody; six grandchildren: Dontae, Christopher, Darius, Raven, Damien, and Donita; five great-grandchildren; four siblings: John (Lillian), Jeffrey (Cecilia), Sonia Hairston all of Wilkesboro, NC and Audra (Troy) Graves of High Point; one aunt, Shirley Rucker of Elkhorn; his nieces, nephews and cousins; Church family; special friends too numerous to name and sisters-in-law, Virgie Harris, Betty Poteat, Deborah Hairston and Karen Harris.
Deacon Hairston's Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Mercy Seat Baptist Church in Kyle, with Pastor Walter E. Clay, Elder Jessie Fields and Reverend Wayman Rucker (Eulogist) officiating. Interment will follow in Rest lawn Memorial Gardens on Rt. 20, Littlesburg Road in Bluewell, where burial rites will be conducted by VFW Post 1144 of Iaeger. Grandsons and nephews, granddaughters and nieces will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., until the time of Service at the Church.
