Claire Harman Shutko, age 82 of Ann Arbor, MI passed away January 17, 2018. Claire was born in Bluefield, West Virginia to Charles Dale Harman and Bernadine Cassidy on October 24, 1935.
Claire will be remembered as a loving person with a generous heart and kind, gentle ways. To many, she was known as Doll, a nickname for which she was well suited. Friends, family, and acquaintances alike were often inspired by the gracious way in which she selflessly considered the well being and needs of others.
Claire found great joy in her family and took special pride in her son, John. As a mother, she instilled the values of honesty, integrity, compassion and education. With an infinitely big-heart, she extended motherly love with the grace of an angel to many along the way. Friends were always sure to find an open seat at her table followed by offerings of sweet treats, a cool drink, and entertaining conversation. Claire also delighted in an active social life as she often gathered with friends to play cards and enjoy lunch dates. She maintained lasting relationships from friendships made in her youth and treasured visits to West Virginia where she "giggled for hours" with girlfriends of 'ole.
Claire is survived by her son and his wife, John Lloyd and Amanda Shutko, their children, Luke Lloyd and Jack Lloyd Shutko, her brother and his wife, Dale and Kathy Harman.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Alfred Shutko, her sister Ann, and her parents, Dale and Bernadine Harman.
In lieu of flowers, Claire's family would like you to remember her compassionate and generous spirit by being kind and loving to those that you know as well as passing on random acts of kindness to those you do not.
