Billie Gean's Story
Billie Gean Thompson Lowe of Richlands, VA, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, May 25, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was born September 7, 1929, at Finney, in Russell County, VA and was the daughter of the late Edgar L. Thompson, Sr. and Nola V. Sykes Thompson. She and her parents moved to the Dalton Addition in Richlands. With the exception of a short residence in Lebanon, Virginia, Billie was a life-long resident of Richlands. She was a member of the Richlands Presbyterian Church.
Billie was a 1947 graduate of Richlands High School, and married Mathias Harman Lowe, Jr., on June 10, 1948. Together, they made a career of bookkeeping and management of the City Market, Piggly Wiggly, and Gateway Foods for more than thirty years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, M. H. "Junior" Lowe; brother, Edgar L. Thompson, Jr., and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Survivors include sister-in-law, Gaynelle R. Thompson, and children, numerous cousins, including Albert Davis, Jr., several nieces and nephews and God-son, Dusty Edwards. Although Billie and "Junior" had no children, they were closely involved in the lives of Larry and David Thompson, and Kristen Thompson-Whitt, and considered themselves blessed to have been part of the lives of so many young people due to the close relationships with family members, and those formed with employees working at the supermarkets.
The family would like to express special thanks to the friends and staff at Helping Hands Hospice; special caregivers, Teressa Lester and Wanda Clayborne; and Angela Harrison, FNP, for her years of excellent care; and Dr. Michel Bidros for his care and assistance during her illness.
A funeral service for Billie Gean Thompson Lowe will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, VA with the Evangelist Bob Smith, Rev. Paul Griffith and Rev. Paul Min officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens, at Claypool Hill, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
