Betty Clara Lawson Brewster of North Tazewell, VA departed for Heaven surrounded by family at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, TN on Thursday morning January 18, 2018, at the age of 81.
Betty Brewster, the daughter of the late Frank Albert and Lola Marie Hager Lawson, was born on June 17, 1936. She grew up in the community of Tip Top, Virginia and was a 1953 graduate of Tazewell High School. Betty worked 23 years for Tazewell County Public Schools serving as an office assistant in the maintenance department. There she was dedicated to ensuring that the facility needs of teachers and students were met. She believed that everyone has a responsibility in the education of a child.
Her greatest loves were her Savior, Jesus Christ and her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who she often referred to as her "babies." She was an avid reader of the scriptures and a constant source of wisdom for those who sought her advice. Her family was her most important earthly possession, and she was proud of them.
Betty is united in death by her husband of 22 years James R. Brewster; her father and mother Frank Albert and Lola Marie Hager Lawson; son, James F. Brewster; son-in-law, Michael L. Banner; and siblings, Frank Albert Lawson, Jr. and Emily G. Carter.
Betty is survived by her children, Debbie Brewster Banner of Johnson City, TN, Charlotte Linkous Brewster of North Tazewell, VA, and Thomas M. Brewster and wife Debra of Falls Mills, VA; eight grandchildren, James Brewster, George Banner, Christopher Brewster, Micheal Carr, Jamie Pritchard, London Ray, Sahara Brewster, and Milan Brewster; brother, Jack E. Lawson and wife, Linda of North Tazewell, VA; nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by loving nieces, nephews and a host of long-time friends.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Peery & St.Clair Home in Tazewell, VA where funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM with Pastor Tim Lawson officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, VA.
