Bert's Story

Bert Pat Whittaker, age 90 of the Baptist Valley community in North Tazewell, VA went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, December 24, 2017 at his home. Bert followed his faith as his favorite Bible verse said: "For I am now ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith." II Timothy 4:6-7.
Born June 18, 1927 at Hartwell, WV, he was a son of the late Avery and Mae Whittaker. Bert worked for Consolidation Coal Company in Amonate and Bishop for many years. He was a former Deacon of Tazewell Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and yard work, but Bert's passion was coal mining.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Edith Honaker and Bea Meade; brothers, Ted, Lawrence, and Morgan Whittaker.
He is survived by his wife, of 74 years, Jettie; children, Linda Keith, Patricia Sutherland, Randall Whittaker and wife, Susan, and Kerina Linkous and husband, Scott; grandchildren: Kelly Dean, Karin Hicks and husband, Mark, Anita Jo Gotthardt and husband, Don, Dusty Wood, Mary Blythe Glover and husband, Rich, Matt Whittaker and wife, Chelsa and Morgan Brown and husband, Wesley; eighteen great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren, along with many friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA where funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday, December 28, 2017 Pastors J.C. Steele and Steve Emory officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA.
