Bert's Story

Bert C. Gregory, Jr., 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Oak Hill, WV on October 27, 2017.
He was born January 15, 1930 in Bluefield, WV to the late Bert C. Gregory Sr. and Lillian Lester Gregory.
Bert joined the U.S. Navy in 1947 and retired as a Lt. Commander from the USN Medical Service Corp. in 1974. He was stationed in various locations around the world including Panama, the territory of Hawaii and Sasebo, Japan. In addition, he also visited many ports in Europe while on board ship. After retiring from his 27 years in the Navy, Bert worked as the office manager for a medical practice in Silver Springs, MD.
Loved by all who knew him, Bert's greatest joy was his family and he kept everyone entertained with stories of his Navy and childhood high jinx.
Besides his parents, Bert was preceded in death by two wives, Mary Sprole Gregory and Cleo Becker Gregory, a daughter Kathy and son-in law Larry Hazel, and his sister Libby and brother-in-law Randolph Hambrick.
Those left to cherish his memory include sister, Patty Winston of Bowie, MD, daughter, Theresa and husband Patrick Kerins also of Bowie; son, Bert M. Gregory and wife Alice of Davidsonville, MD; stepson, George Becker and wife Carolyn of Lookout, WV; stepdaughter, Melinda Delalla and husband, Frank of Colorado Springs, CO; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service with a rosary will be held at High Lawn Funeral Home in Oak Hill, WV at 4:00 p.m., Friday, November 3rd with Deacon Harry Evans officiating. Friends may call from 3:00 until time of service. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that you make a donation to your local Toys for Tots, the Salvation Army or any other charity of your choice.
