Bernard's Story

HINTON — Bernard Lee Meadows, 71 of Hinton went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. Bernard was born in Widemouth on April 21, 1945 to the late Margaret Ellen Otey Meadows and Harry Meadows.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four siblings, Lonnie, Pat, Carol and Michael. His sister, Freda, survives him.
Bernard like the rest of his brothers very proudly served in the United Sates Navy from 1962 to 1966 during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
In his first marriage to Carol Jenkins he had two daughters, Tammy and Christine, they gave him 5 grandchildren, Olivia Harris, Nicholas and Nathan Bailey, Grace Bailey and Elyse Dennington.
He has many beloved nieces and nephews.
Bernard mined coal for Itmann Coal Co. for 20 years before heading out West with his second wife Donna Graham to become a cowboy. He was a member of the Elks B.P.O.E. #1611 in Cody, Wyoming. Bernard stayed in Cody with his third wife, Lorraine Vestal with whom he created a commercial cleaning business while working in maintenance for Park County Schools for the next eight years.
He returned home to his roots in West Virginia settling in Hinton.
Bernard dedicated the remainder of his life to serving the Lord. He was baptized by Rev. David White at the Lerona United Methodist Church. He regularly attended the Men's Fellowship meetings and became the US flag flying caretaker of Historic Jordan's Chapel which was the beautiful view from his beloved front porch.
Memorial services will be Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Jordan's Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Olen Robertson officiating.
