Beatrice Jane's Story
Beatrice Jane Elswick Effler, age 89, known to all family and friends as just B.J., of King, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 26, 2017 at 2:30 in the afternoon. Mrs. Effler was born on January 27, 1928 in Jewell Ridge, VA where she spent the majority of her life. She was the daughter of the late William Jackson Elswick and Nannie Francis Griffith Elswick.
B.J. Effler was a graduate of Richlands High School. She was one of the head cooks for the Tabernacle Church Camp Meetings in Richlands, VA for almost 30 years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, and loved spending time with her family. One thing that brought her so much joy was making candy at Christmas time and giving it to family and friends. If her name was ever mentioned, it was always the same comment, "She is such a sweet lady".
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Lawrence Effler of Jewell Ridge, VA, three sisters, Mary Elswick of Richlands, VA, Pansy Cole of Richlands, VA, Jacqueline Cole of Jewell Ridge and two brothers, Fred Elswick and Frank Elswick of Jewell Ridge, VA. She was also preceded in death by three sisters-in-law, Mildred Goss of Richlands, VA, Bessie Arnold of Jacksonville, FL and Vernie Nichols of Richlands, VA whom she loved as sisters.
Mrs. Effler was a loving mother and is survived by: Daughters: Charlotte Valenzuela and husband, Manuel of King, NC, Linda Layne and husband, Doug of King, NC, Kathy McCoy of King, NC; Sons: Lawrence Effler and wife, Carol of King, NC, Kerry Effler and wife, Regina of King, NC.
She also leaves behind ten grandchildren, Jerry Valenzuela and wife, Teresa of Kernersville, NC; Sista Richardson and husband, Tyler of Wardell, VA; Scott Effler of Charlotte, NC; Stephanie Smith and husband, Mark of Kernersville, NC; Doug Layne, Jr. and wife, Bryn of Mebane, NC; Ryan Layne of Tobaccoville, NC; Jeremy Stuart of King, NC; Jessica Bunton and husband, Ethan of Kings Mountain, NC; Katie Effler of King, NC; and Karlie Effler of King, NC; along with seven great grandchildren. Mrs. Effler is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Ann Mosley of Glade Spring, VA, and Ruby Young of Flint, MI and many nieces and nephews who loved her and will miss her.
Funeral services for Mrs. B.J. Effler will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 30th, 2017 at Hurst Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Richlands, VA with Rev. Phillip Horton officiating. Interment will follow at the Elswick Cemetery on Stinson Ridge, in Jewell Ridge, VA.
The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at the funeral home.
