Auburn Ratliff

VANSANT, Va. — Auburn Ratliff, 89 years of age of Vansant, VA, passed away September 3, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. Born March 1, 1927, in Pike County, KY, he was the son of the late Alonza and Tennessee (Kenny) Ratliff. He was a longtime resident of Buchanan County and was of the Christian faith. Auburn served in the United States Navy during World War II. He also served as sheriff for Buchanan County and was a longtime business owner of Ratliff Farm & Home Supply Inc. since the 1940s. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and was a lover of horses.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cleo Ratliff; twin brother, Aubrey Ratliff; 1-Sister: Gladys Helton.
Those left to cherish his memory include 2-Daughters: Deborah Ann (John) Ratliff, Bristol, VA, Vivian Lee Perry and longtime companion, Larry Sparkman, Grundy, VA; 2-Grandsons: John Ratliff Jr., Bristol, VA, Jeremiah Perry, Haysi, VA; 3-Great-Grandchildren: Brooke Perry, Bluefield, VA, Morgan Fuller and Cayden Perry, Vansant, VA; 2-Sisters: Beluah Little of Ohio, Shelvia "Shelby" (Don) Little, Pikeville, KY; 1-Brother: Forrest Ratliff, Oakwood, VA.
Funeral Services for Auburn Ratliff will be conducted Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Rife officiating with burial to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.
Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Monday evening at 6:00 P.M.
Active Pallbearers will be Jeffery Charles, Mark Compton, Craig Plymal, Chuck Stewart, Rick Browning, James Hess and Brad Vandyke.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Ratliff, David Ratliff, Avery Allman and Mike Little.
Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by members of Childs Gentry Post No. 7360 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Special thanks go out to the caregivers and doctors that took care of him, Sharon Wolford, Roney Layne, Melissa Stiltner, Dr. R. Patel, Dr. H. Patel, Rite Aid Pharmacy and Special Care Hospice and Home Health.
