Arlene Virginia's Story

Arlene Virginia (Thompson) Hayes, 83 of Bluefield, WV passed away on November 30, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loved ones following a long illness.
Born in Bluefield, WV Nov 4, 1934, she was the first of ten children born to the late Harold John & Albertha Deadrick Thompson.
Arlene attended Bluefield public schools and graduated from Park Central High School. She was also a member of Scott Street Baptist Church.
Arlene met and married the late Samuel E. Hayes, Sr. who was in the Armed Forces. They moved to New York and to this union seven children were born and raised. She was truly a homemaker. The oldest of 10 children, she helped to raise her siblings and loved cooking, decorating and entertaining. She was always willing to help anyone in need, most of all her family, whom she loved very much. She was the matriarch of the family and an expert at making a house a home.
Arlene relocated back to Bluefield in 1986.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her oldest son, Samuel E. Hayes, Jr. six of her siblings: Linda & Janet Thompson, Thelma Collier, Mary Katherine, John Harold and Alice Seabron.
She leaves to cherish her memories three brothers: Charles Thompson (Allonia), Larry Thompson (Erlene) and David Thompson (Mary); 6 children: Letitia, Olivia, Curtis, Deidre Greer (Jay), Sean & Melanie; One aunt, Virginia (Billie) Mathis of Shaker Heights, OH; 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Arlene will be conducted 12:00 Noon on Thursday, December 7, 2017, at The Faith Center Church in Bluefield with Bishop Fred Brown officiating.
Entombment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
